In L’Arche we focus on the person and the importance of relationships. We see each person first and foremost as an individual.
We seek to understand the world from the person’s perspective, and aim to keep the person at the centre of choices and decisions. The model of care in L’Arche overturns conventional “service user” and “staff” relationships.
Community means togetherness where there is no ‘us’ and ‘them’. In essence community is people living and working together. The home or flat is not seen primarily as a care setting, but as a place of mutual relationship where people are encouraged to grow and develop their full potential.
We recognise that everyone has gifts and our mission is to make known the gifts and contribution that people with disabilities can make to our society.
